ROAD 13 VINEYARDS – BC WINERIES & VINEYARDS
THE MOTTO OF ROAD 13 “IT’S ALL ABOUT THE DIRT”
ABOUT ROAD 13
The site was originally operated by a partnership between three field engineers who were kicked out of Russia by the communists after the revolution. After irrigation canal water became available inthe early 1920s, they planted tree fruits and ground crops.
The land was next sold to Tim Robin, one of the largest growers in the area, who continued to farm it as an apple and peach orchard.
The property was sold in a derelict state to Hungarian Arpad Pallay in 1961. Arpad (deceased in 2004) planted apples, cherries and ground crops. He was the first farmer in the lower valley to circumvent the growers’ co-op and took his fruit direct to Vancouver. As a juicy side, his daughter Kate married the son of the fruit inspector who has always trying to catch Arpad selling his fruit outside the co-op!
Peter and Helga Serwo purchased the winery site in 1985. Coming to the Okanagan Valley in the late 1960s from Germany, where they worked as building contractors and grape growers. They continued these callings in Canada and were responsible for a good chunk of the early Golden Mile plantings including the original Tinhorn Creek site. Pam and Mick Luckhurst purchased the land in 2003, when Peter and Helga wanted to slow down after 50 years of viticulture.

KINTARO RAMEN – VANCOUVER
Kintaro Ramen on Denman Street is an awesome place to go on one of those cold, rainy days in Vancouver when you feel like your body needs a bit of fat to warm up. Kintaro is our favorite, even though it is far from what a real Ramen is supposed to taste like. We love our cheese Ramen with boiled egg. The broth is always delicious, you have a choice of lean or fat pork and can order extra toppings. The sizes are HUGE with generous amount of cheese. We also tried the Garlic Ramen but the Cheese Ramen beats them all
Kintaro is a place on a go so don’t expect a restaurant atmosphere. You come, eat, pay and leave right away to make room for the next hungry Ramen lover. I can’t say that it’s the cleanest restaurant but all that adds up to what Kintaro is all about. Most of the time you will have to stand in line ….. but it’s worth it!!
BANANA LEAF VANCOUVER
BANANA LEAF MALAYSIAN CUISINE – KITSILANO LOCATION
Banana Leaf is one of our favorite places to go when we want to have a nice, comfortable evening and really fill our belly’s. Each dish is so diverse in flavor and all done with beautiful finishing touches. The atmosphere at Banana Leaf is perfect to take your loved one for a romantic evening, go out with your family for a super delicious dinner or enjoy a fun evening with your friends.
Malaysian fare isn’t about a singular distinctive taste, but about diversity, with a blend of culinary inspiration from India, China, Indonesia, Thailand, Eurasia, and Malaysia’s indigenous population. It combines the best of South East Asia, from India’s roti canai, Singapore’s laksa, to China’s Hainanese chicken rice, creating a menu that is a delight to try. Malaysian food, with its diverse influences, makes it the perfect match for Vancouver’s own multicultural atmosphere.
HAPA IZAKAYA VANCOUVER
A UNIQUE JAPANESE IZAKAYA STYLE
IRASHAII!!! (Welcome!!!) – is shouted when you come into Hapa Izakaya
We had an amazing time at the Hapa Izakaya Yaletown location. The atmosphere was just perfect, sophisticated, romantic yet fun, and the food, which was directly recommended by Chefs – Masafumi Okuno and Alvaro Montes De Oca was just amazing. Hapa Izakaya is highly recommended for everyone, it’s great if you’re looking for a fun night with your friends, a romantic night with your loved one, a business meeting or just to enjoy one of the most delicious foods in Vancouver.
MEAT & BREAD – LUNCH SPOT – GASTOWN – VANCOUVER
MEAT AND BREAD – MAN MADE – DAILY
Meat & Bread, what a fantastic place to go for a fast lunch in Vancouver. Simple, tasteful with a fun combination of old and modern and a great concept. When you come in, you just have to order one of the sandwiches, the guys are super nice and make you feel so welcome. We had a lamb, a meatball sandwich and a vegetable soup. I don’t know which one was more delicious, both were so tasty and I think literally licked the bowl after my soup. The sizes were just perfect, made us totally satisfied, would even be enough for a light dinner. I definitely recommend this place to everyone, it has great ambiance and great food. A really nice addition to our beautiful city.
GUU WITH OTOKOMAE – GASTOWN
“This is a short trip to Tokyo. Don’t worry about things in your life. Get drunk and have fun! Our friendly staff will help you to forget everything!” That’s izakaya. An izakaya is a Japanese bar that also serves food. Guu is one of my favorite places to go with family and friends and just have a fun and relax. It offers a great variety, good presentation, and fresh tasting food that is super delicious. Guu is a Japanese tapas style concept so be prepared to order many dishes as they are quite small. The dishes are reasonably priced and you can get quite full without paying a lot of money. It is definitely a different experience!
