INTERNATIONAL PHOTOGRAPHY PROJECT
Eyoälha is passionate about positive, ethical people/leaders, creators and change makers. She is inspired by people improving the world by doing what they love, people who are positively inspiring the world with integrity, and taking risks to make their life dreams into reality.
She post photos of people jumping on her blog everyday and features a different person every week in her NEWSLETTER; They express their passions, inspirations and plug their own creative work/projects/art/sports/charities or whatever they are working towards building and improving in the world.
By focusing on positive actions and the compilation of joy, Eyoälha is creating a unified community that showcases creativity, positivity, joy and fun that uplifts both participants and viewers.
Capturing the expression of joy through the simple act of jumping, reminds us to take ourselves and life a little less seriously, if just for a few moments.
“When you ask a person to jump, his attention is mostly directed toward the act of jumping and the mask falls so that the real person appears.” – Philippe Halsman
Leading up to 2012, there were theories that the world was coming to an end… We are still here. The world is still turning and with the speed of our technology, it seems to be spinning faster than ever before. Wars and injustice are still raging rampant, people are still working themselves to death to obtain objects and status in individualistic societies, and people are still dying from starvation when there is food enough to feed the world.
However, there was a dramatic shift in the value system for many people. There is an increasing focus on positivity and joy in the social consciousness (based on her experience and interactions) that IS changing the world as we know it.
More people are focusing on self love, joy, peace, community and cooperation. There is an overwhelming movement and desire to create a better world, a better place to live, for everyone.
Perhaps we did not experience the physical end of the world as we know it but rather a conscious shift in the PERCEPTION of the world as we know it.
Sharing Jump for Joy photos is her way to reach the true joy and child-like playfulness within people.
“Surrounding yourself with images that uplift your spirit is as important for your health as nutritious food.” – Deepak Chopra in Origin Magazine
Eyoälha hopes to contribute to the shift of our collective focus from the negative to the positive. It’s easy to get caught up in the stresses of life, with trade deficits, wars, disasters, injustices, difficult relationships, bills etc. We sometimes forget the importance of play and tend to feel weighed down when continually fed negative stories online and in the news at every turn.
Let’s remind ourselves to, take ourselves a little less seriously. Lets play, laugh and Jump for Joy!
*** All the photos in this project Eyoälha has taken herself, except for a few of her jumping in which case she has credited the person taking the photo. Eyoälha is happy that her project has inspired others who want to share their own jumping photos with her so she has created a facebook page for anyone who wants to share their own jumping photos: https://www.facebook.com/JumpForJoyPhotoProject
Eyoälha (Eee-YO-Lah) means – the wind – in the Kwakwa’ka’wakw language from the North West Coast of Canada. She is Canadian yet find herself at home in many countries. She is an artist, Photographer and avid traveler.
Photography provides a medium to share how she see beauty in the world. She has always been interested in photography and I considers herself to be mostly self taught. She fell in love with digital photography when she bought her first Canon power shot – 3.2 megapixels in 2004 (still her favourite camera). She was so excited to experiment and play with light, motion, framing and to take hundreds of photos without concern of wasting costly film.. and it’s so instant. She loved the instant gratification of seeing the images.
She loved that camera so much that she risked her life chasing down a thief (James Bond style) during Carnival in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. She was lucky. She got it back with the help of some armed police officers who popped up once they had run through the crowd into a less populated street. She wasn’t harmed.
She finds immense joy in capturing the essence of the moment, documenting the beauty and movement in the spontaneity of life… which is also one of the reasons why she loves jumping photos! She believes in the positive effects of joy and the creative collaboration between photographer and subject.
Eyoälha holds a degree in Fine Arts from Concordia University, a Diploma in Media Resources from Capilano College, and attended the Latin American Management Program (LAMP) through the McRae Institute. She was the owner and creator of Urban Remix Interior Design company (she closed the doors in 2010). Eyoälha also partnered in the creation of Mode Suites Executive Furnished Rentals. She sold my share of the company in 2011 to pursue her love of travel and photography.
These were a few pages from her life.. in this chapter Eyoälha plays the role of an artist / photographer set out on a worldwide adventure taking photos of interesting, inspiring and creative people expressing their joy around the world.
