The Maritime Museum is where the young and young at heart thrill to their many exhibits and the adventures within their galleries. They inspire all to be life-long learners and everyone who enters their world gains a deeper understanding of how people respond to and interact with the sea.
Every day the Vancouver Maritime Museum charts a different course of adventure for all. Discover the rich maritime history and traditions of the Pacific Coast. Step back in time to 1944 on board Canada’s famous RCMP St Roch and explore the many permanent and changing exhibits, Children’s Maritime Discovery Centre, family activities, and the boats in Heritage Harbour.
WHO ARE THEY?
They are Canada’s principal maritime museum on the Pacific, located in the heart of Canada’s greatest ports at the gateway to the Pacific Rim. For over 50 years, they have been Pacific Canada’s premier link to maritime history, art, culture, industry and technology.
They do their job best when visitors of all ages have fun while learning. They believe in families. They believe that anyone and everyone can continue to learn throughout their life. And they believe in making stories come alive through using artifacts – the real thing not, make-believe set.
They are a favourite with children and with their parents and grandparents. They are a popular destination for both local and residents and tourists. Each year, more than 100,000 people visit the Vancouver Maritime Museum. Most of thier visitors are families from the Lower mainland. During the months of May to October, the Maritime Museum is a popular destination for tourists curious about the maritime history of Canada. In addition, thousands of students participate in guided education programs and they are a popular destination for community groups.
Education is the cornerstone of the Maritime Museum. Their programs instil a sense of adventure and excitement about the maritime world and are designed for school children, the general public who visit them, and people who attend their workshops, interactive programs and lectures. The Museum is a valuable resource for researchers; their collections, archives and library are available to the public as is their expert staff.
They protect the irreplaceable for future generations and conserve the thousands of artifacts entrusted to their care. They also strive to preserve the stories that link the artifacts to real people and their experiences.

CHILDREN’S MARITIE DISCOVERY CENTRE
The Children’s Maritime Discovery Centre is a great place for kids! With lots of hands-on displays, children of all ages have plenty to do:
• Take the controls in a full-size replica of the wheelhouse of the tugboat Seaspan Queen
• View Vancouver’s active port life through high powered telescopes
• Take to the deck in oilskins in “Fishing for a Living”
• Explore the Discovery Wall, where drawers are filled with special treasures
• Discover how to protect Vancouver Harbour from oil and other nasties
• Visit the model maker, Lucian Ploias in his shop
