The Vancouver Art Gallery’s Family Fuse Weekend (Saturday – Sunday, November 19 – 20, 2011 10:am – 5:00pm) gathers mementos, assembles experiences and shares curiosities as we explore the Love of Collecting. Join artists, dancers, musicians, filmmakers and other creative artists for fun and innovative workshops, performances, tours and activities, including:

1.  Dig It (Lobby)  10:00am – 4:30pm
See if you can uncover interesting objects or buried treasure at the dig site.

2.  Identification Station (Lobby)  10:00am – 4:30pm
Make a badge to show whether you’re an “Art Hunter” or a “Picture Detective.”

3.  Collecting Tales (3rd floor)  10:30am, 11:30am & 12:30pm
Readings from books selected by Vancouver Public Library children’s librarian Nathalie Patel and check out the mini-library with books about collecting.

4.  Art Agents (2nd floor)  11:00am, 12:00pm & 1:00pm
A tour with our Art Agents Caroline Liffmann and Sarvenaz Amanat as they explore the exhibition Shore, Forest and Beyond: Art from the Audain Collection

5.  Sketch Stations  (1st floor)  10:30am – 4:30pm
Join art educator Kate Dawson in the galleries in making drawings inspired by Northwest Coast artists.

6.  ‘art is either….’ (Rotunda, 1st floor)  2:00pm & 3:30pm
Contemporary ballet company plastic orchid factory perform to the music of John Cage.

7.  “shuushuu matsuri” (Rotunda, 1st floor) (Collection Festival)  1:30pm & 2:30pm
JODAIKO perform a rhythmic celebration of the colourful mixture of traditions in contemporary Wadaiko drumming.

8.  Taiko Workshop (Room 302 – Annex Building, 3rd floor)  3:30pm
Learn Taiko drumming by collecting rhythms from the world around you – and create an original piece to perform with the group.

9.  Tiny Galleries (Room 4East, 4th floor)  10:30am – 4:30pm
Create miniature, three-dimensional galleries of your very own. Build your version of the Vancouver Art Gallery!

10.  The Making Place (Pavilion, 4th floor)  10:30am – 4:30pm
Join Art Agents Jody Kramer, Richard Clements and Marie France Berard for a collection of amazing hands-on making activities.

11.  Gallery of Very Small Objects (Pavilion, 4th floor)  10:30am – 4:30pm
Learn to identify Very Small Objects with the classification system invented by Brian Collier.

12.  Family Film Lounge (1st floor)  10:30am – 4:30pm
Relax while watching a selection of great animated films.
